Managing Performance Assessment
A variety of methods are utilized to provide performance planning, feedback and assessment at the University. The various assessment tools are listed below and are specific to each agreement that an employee falls under.
Academic Staff
Administrative + Professional Officer
- The APO and Manager work together to prepare goals for the upcoming year.
- The APO will complete the Annual Review document and submit it to their manager prior to April 15 each year.
- The manager and APO will review the document and the Manager will provide feedback and complete the final copy of the Annual Review. The Manager will also review the performance rating with the employee.
- The Manager provides the Dean or Vice President with the summary comments, performance rating and an increment recommendation.
- The employee should be advised of the increment recommendations by July 31 each year.

Support Staff
- Managers can view any upcoming reviews on the manager dashboard in PeopleSoft HCM .
- To prepare for the review, download the Support Staff Performance Appraisal or Support Staff Probationary Review form from the document management system.
- Complete the form as instructed. Information required to complete the forms can be found under the Probation, Tenure & Performance Review report in the following location in PeopleSoft HCM. The reports capture all the information for employees in a department who have performance or probationary reviews in a specific period of time.
- Main Menu 〉HR Operational Reports 〉Performance Promotion 〉Prob, Tenure and Perf Reviews.
- In case you do not have access to run this report, contact the General Administrator within your department or HR Partner for the information required to fill the form.
- Review the appraisal with the employee.
- The appraisal document will indicate the performance rating and the increment awarded (if applicable).
- Sign and forward to Shared Services for processing by submitting a request to the Staff Service Centre and attach the appraisal.
- In the event that an appraisal is not received by the annual review date, an increment will be automatically awarded.
