Working in the Field
In addition to the mandatory training for all U of A faculty and staff, all field researchers MUST complete mandatory Field Research Safety eLearning and in-person training prior to beginning fieldwork.
The following courses are also appropriate for field researchers (depending on the planned research activities):
- ATV Safety
- Bear Awareness and Safety
- Chainsaw Safety
- Cougar Awareness
- Defensive Driving
- Fire Extinguisher
- Snowmobile Safety
- Truck and Trailering Training
- UV Protection
- Standard First Aid
- Wilderness First Aid
Depending on the hazards you will be working with, some or all of the training above may be required. Additional training may also be needed based on the tasks you will be doing.
To determine your individual training requirements, complete a training needs assessment . You must complete all training and demonstrate competency before beginning work.
