Introduce yourself...

I am a second-year PhD student in Medicine focusing on Health Outcomes Research.

What are you researching and what do you hope comes out of your research?

I am exploring the health outcomes of patient perspectives on using a new type of prosthetic device known as bone-anchored or osseointegrated prosthesis. I am hoping to really learn from the patients' stories and challenges to work on solutions to the problems that they identify and celebrate their positive experiences.

How did presenting a Three Minute Thesis (3MT) help explain your research to the public?

Presenting a 3MT really pushed me to work on finding the essence of my research work and to do it in a way that everyone can appreciate how amazing the new technology is and how important it is to hear what the patients have to say.

What inspires you to do research?

I am inspired by every person who is going through or has gone through some form of disability and to be able to do something meaningful for them.

What are three keywords important to your 3MT?

bone-anchored prosthesis, osseointegration, and patient experience

How has your research changed during COVID-19?

Due to COVID-19, the surgeries that were supposed to happen last year have been postponed. Before the pandemic and the restrictions, we were able to carry out only two surgeries. Also, I have had to interview my participants over Google Meet as an alternative to in-person.

If you had to dedicate your research to anyone from the past, present, or future, who would it be and why?

I would dedicate my work to amazing people like my research participants and their families. Their resilient spirit in the face of adversity truly inspires me and keeps me going.
