About the Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies
Welcome to the Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) — formerly the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research — at the University of Alberta.
Over our 113-year history, our graduate and postdoctoral students, faculty and staff have made an indelible mark on the world.
We support faculty, students and staff in all aspects of their work and studies. We promote excellence in graduate education, enhancing the quality of experience for over 8,400 graduate students in more than 500 graduate programs in 300 research areas.
Since 1911, we’ve conferred over 14,800 doctoral degrees. Today, we’re recognized as one of the top 5 universities in Canada for total sponsored research funding. We’re home to 41 3M™ National Teaching Fellows, and we count a Nobel Prize winner among our faculty.
