The Master of Education in Educational Studies (MES) -  Structured Literacy and Reading Science Ladder - will build upon the companion Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies, advancing educators' self-efficacy in the knowledge and skills relating to reading development, reading difficulties, and structured literacy instruction. The courses are designed to blend theory with practice and will build capacity in both classroom-wide teaching of reading and writing and in supporting students with specific literacy difficulties. The MES also provides you with opportunities to develop educational research skills and apply them in your educational context.

The Master of Education in Educational Studies (MES) is a 10-course, course-based degree. For admission into this cohort, students must have completed a Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies - Structured Literacy and Reading Science at the University of Alberta - four courses; 12 credits. They will complete the MES by taking six graduate-level courses (18 credits) as outlined here. Two of these courses - EDU 520 and EDU 521 - fulfill the academic requirement for leadership (principal) certification in Alberta.

Note: completion of a graduate certificate does not guarantee admission into the MES program.
