Diploma and Certificate Programs
Diploma and certificate programs in the Faculty of Education are offered to meet the varied needs of educators who wish to further their knowledge of current educational theory and practice through full-time or part-time study. Normally, admission to a diploma or certificate program will require an undergraduate degree.

- Secondary Education Diploma Program
The Diploma in Secondary Education is a flexible program designed for those who wish to pursue advanced study in Secondary Education beyond the baccalaureate degree.
- Teaching English as a Second Language Diploma Program
The Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) Program emphasizes the importance of helping teachers understand both instructional and research principles to assist them in adapting to the changing face of ESL. We provide professional development to both pre-service and experienced teachers.

Embedded Undergraduate Certificates
- Certificate in Global Citizenship
The Certificate in Global Citizenship is an embedded interdisciplinary certificate that recognizes undergraduate students at the University of Alberta who have an interest, understanding and ethic of global citizenship. The Certificate is open to undergraduate students across the university and can be earned in conjunction with multiple undergraduate degrees. - Certificate in Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CIE)
The Certificate in Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) will help you enhance your skills and capacity to make a difference in the world, by identifying and developing solutions to important problems and challenges. Well-honed innovative and entrepreneurial skills provide a tangible personal, professional, and financial impact, both locally and globally.
Graduate Certificates
- Graduate Certificate in School Leadership
The Graduate Certificate in School Leadership (GCSL) is a flexible, part-time program, offered fully online, that facilitates studying without taking a leave from your career. You will be engaged in authentic tasks and experiences directly linked to school leadership, including a job-embedded learning component in which you will visit, observe, and collaborate with a school leader or leadership team in a school setting of your choice. Courses in this program fulfill the academic requirement for leadership certification in Alberta, and the completed certificate can be laddered into an MEd. - Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies
The Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (GCES) provides you with opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills in a wide variety of disciplinary focus areas. You will be engaged in authentic tasks and experiences directly linked to your focus area. The GCES is a flexible, part-time, varied-delivery program that facilitates studying without taking a leave from your career. A completed GCES can be laddered into an MEd.
