Alberta / Technical University of Munich International Graduate School for Hybrid Functional Materials
The Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada awarded our group, in April 2015, with a training program grant as part of the NSERC CREATE program. The $1.6 million investment from NSERC will fund a collaborative training program for graduate students from chemistry, physics, and electrical & computer engineering. In May 2019 our German partners received a renewal from the German funding agency, DFG , and on the Canadian side, we received additional funding from Alberta Innovates . This will allow our program to run from April 2015- March 2024. Highlights of the program include collaborative research exchange visits for three to six months to our German partner, Technische Universität München (TUM) . The training takes place in the research labs of the Alberta Technical University of Munich International Graduate School for Hybrid Functional Materials (ATUMS), University of Alberta.
Our Objectives
1. To train Canada's next generation of leaders in hybrid functional materials with a focus on efficient energy storage.
2. To develop a cohort of Canadian researchers with an international view of research and world-class research excellence training.
3. To enhance international cooperation in material science research, in particular with Germany.
4. To foster a group of researchers with international contacts in nanomaterial science and device fabrication.
5. To train students to be leaders in academia, government, polymer/materials chemistry industries and/or to work in the energy, optics, and microelectronics industrial sectors, or as entrepreneurs.
The Canadian arm of the ATUMS program is made possible through the generous support of Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) CREATE program. The German arm of the ATUMS program is supported by DFG.
