Graduation
Once you have successfully completed all requirements for your degree, you may apply to graduate. Please remember to review the graduation requirements in the Faculty of Science section of the academic calendar.
Graduation requirement for students in a Pre-Fall 2024 Program (BSc General, BSc Specialization, BSc Honors)
Graduation Requirements for the new Bachelor of Science (BSc Major and BSc Honors) programs .
The application for graduation is in your Beartracks account (under Graduation in Academic Records) and the deadlines are as follows:
September 1: deadline to apply to graduate from an undergraduate degree in fall
February 1: deadline to apply to graduate from an undergraduate degree in spring
Once you apply to graduate, our team will review your academic record to ensure you meet all requirements for graduation. This is done after all of your official and final grades have been confirmed.
NOTE: If you have outstanding grades, deferred exams or appeals we will not be able to complete our evaluation and your graduation could be delayed.
After you apply to graduate
Your graduation status (approved or denied) will be available in BearTracks. If you have been denied graduation you must speak with an academic advisor to understand what requirements have been missed.
Note: students in poor academic standing or those facing disciplinary action are not eligible to graduate.
Document requests confirming completion of your degree (prior to the ceremony) can be requested through SciForms. Note that this is for students who have been approved to graduate but require confirmation before the ceremony has taken place. See below for all other post graduation documents and forms.
Certificates
(You must apply to receive your certificate at the same time as your graduation application)
Certificates are granted at convocation along with your parchment. If you completed the requirements for a certificate you must apply for this as well; it is not automatically granted.
Note: certificates cannot be granted post convocation. If you forgot to apply for your certificate there is no way for us to grant it later.
Each certificate has its own requirements to graduate, and in some cases we will need confirmation from the department offering the certificate to ensure you have met all requirements.
Convocation ceremony
The university has two convocation seasons in which ceremonies are held, Fall convocation in November, and Spring convocation in June.
Each convocation ceremony is organized by the Registrar’s Office. Once you apply to graduate you will receive information about the ceremony, how to reserve your apparel, tickets and more, directly from that office. Please make sure you follow all of their instructions. Inquiries about the ceremony, photos and when to pick up your gown can be sent to the Student Services Centre.
The Faculty of Science Student Service team is not involved with the convocation ceremony and we will not be able to assist you with tickets or answer related questions.
After graduation
Your UAlberta email account will remain active for 6 months post graduation.
If you require documentation post graduation you have a few options
