Master of Business Administration + Doctor of Pharmacy (Combined Degrees)
Our faculty has established Canada's first combined Masters of Business Administration and Doctor of Pharmacy degree program.
The combined MBA/PharmD degree targets a select group of pharmacy students who recognize the value of combining pharmacy studies with management skills and business expertise. The combined degree programs are designed for students aspiring to a management role, or for future pharmacist entrepreneurs.
Student pharmacists enter the Masters of Business (MBA) program in the University of Alberta's School of Business after completing their third year of pharmacy courses in the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program to become graduate students for a year. They then return to complete their final year in the PharmD program.
Upon successful completion of the combined program, graduates will receive both an MBA and a PharmD degree. There are no changes to the Pharmacy requirements other than adding an extra year to the overall requirements (during which students would complete the MBA requirements). The MBA requirements are 42 credits.
Each student must first apply to the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences for admission into the PharmD program. Students in their third year of the PharmD program can apply to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (for admission into the MBA program).
