New pharmacy instructor is passionate about connecting pharmaceutical science to clinical practice.

Forugh SanaeeNew Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences instructor Forugh Sanaee completed her PharmD in Iran before coming to the University of Alberta to do her PhD in pharmaceutical sciences. As she begins her first role as an instructor, she looks forward to bringing her technical skills, enthusiasm for her work and dedication to her students to this new role.

We spoke to Sanaee about her career and what draws her to teaching.

As a new instructor, what do you most fondly recall about your own teachers over the years?

Their enthusiasm to teach and time management skills. 

What non-academic work have you done in the field?

I have worked in different areas in the pharmaceutical field and I have enjoyed my journey. I have worked as a pharmaceutical scientist in a pharmaceutical company. As a registered pharmacist, I have also worked in community pharmacies. 

What are you most looking forward to about teaching here at the U of A?

I have been a guest lecturer, but this will be my first time as a regular teacher. I look forward to making a meaningful contribution in training future pharmacists and scientists and I have chosen the U of A because I have studied and worked here and I am familiar with its friendly and professional environment. 

Is there a particular area of interest you are most looking forward to sharing with your students?

I am interested in the application of pharmaceutical sciences in clinical practice. I am also interested in pharmacokinetics and drug delivery research.

What do you think makes a good pharmacist?

Being passionate, knowledgeable and decisive.
