Dear Pharmacy Students,
With the University's move to a credit/no credit grading framework for the remainder of the Winter term, the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is moving to an alternative form of assessment for our final exams. All exams will be written in an open book format. The exam schedule will remain in tact and the PharmExam software will be used to administer exams. You will take the exams remotely on your own devices in the same time frame as originally planned. You will be able to access any materials you like during the exam taking window. We will not be monitoring your activities during the window and the lockout features will be disabled. Exams will close and auto submit when the time allotted for the exam has expired. Grades from these exams will be used in combination with any other grades that have already been generated to inform credit no credit decisions. Students with approved accommodations will be contacted by Carol Gosse to ensure we can meet your needs for completing all exams.
A note on what to expect with your exams. Faculty have been encouraged to use a similar exam adjusted for changes due to having to move to online delivery. Our focus is on generating basic evidence to support that you have learned the material we are accredited to teach. These are challenging times but we are doing everything we can to create a supportive learning environment for you while meeting course and program outcomes.
More information about how credit and no credit grades are assigned will be coming at a later time. Your course syllabi will also be updated to reflect the above changes to assessment processes in the coming days. In addition, we will follow up with a communication updating processes for determining academic standing given the current changes to grading. For now we encourage you to continue your excellent work in learning your courses from a distance and completing your current course activities.
We are currently planning on the semester concluding as originally planned. If this is not feasible because of the pandemic, alternative arrangements will be clearly outlined and communicated.
Feel free to email myself (Ken Cor [mcor@ualberta.ca]), Ravina Sanghera (ravina@ualberta.ca), or Dion Brocks (dbrocks@ualberta.ca) with any questions.
