Research Opportunities
Throughout your four years in medical school, you will have many opportunities to engage in research opportunities, including:
MD/PHD Program - This program gives you several options for completing an MD and PhD. Traditionally, students have completed their PhD in between the preclinical years and the clinical years of med school (between 2nd and 3rd year). More recently, some students have elected to complete PhDs they started at the beginning of medical school.
MD with Special Training in Research (STIR) - This program gives you a taste of academic medicine. Once accepted, you will complete a minimum of 24 weeks in either basic or clinical research under faculty supervision throughout the first 2 years of medical school.
Summer Student Research Program - This program provides opportunities for you to work with faculty members on clinical and basic-science research projects over the summer.
Community of Research (CoRE) - This optional curricular component is a community of learning led collaboratively by a faculty-appointed clinician-scientist and student representatives. CoRE develops tangible research competencies important for the effective practice of evidence-based medicine and for nurturing aspiring physician-scientists.
