Dr. Eniola Salami
Dr. Eniola Salami is a Family Physician and Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and is the current Black Health Lead for the MD Program.
Dr. Salami was born and raised in Calgary Alberta to Nigerian parents. She has a strong connection to her Nigerian culture and heritage and is deeply connected to her diasporic community. Being the daughter of immigrants has deeply impacted her worldview and perspective on systemic injustice and systemic racism, and informs her academic work. She completed her Bachelor of Health Sciences with a major in Health & Society at the University of Calgary before moving to Edmonton to complete her undergraduate and postgraduate medical training. Currently her work centers on the development of antiracist curricula in medical education and the incorporation of Black health into medical training both in the classroom and at the clinical bedside.
Vision for Social Accountability
Dr. Salami is passionate about the advancement of anti racism in health professions education and training medical students and residents to be competent anti racist practitioners. She has a clear passion for the advancement of Black Health in Alberta and seeks to partner meaningfully with the community to co-create initiatives aimed at addressing systemic health inequities. Her role in the social accountability portfolio is to help foster meaningful, accountable and equitable connections between the Black Community and the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.
Hobbies + Interests
In her spare time, Dr. Salami enjoys travel, playing tennis, volunteering in her community as well as cooking and baking.
