Changes coming to the university guest wireless service
As part of the university’s wireless modernization project, the wireless service for guests and visitors (Guest@UofA) will undergo a change on June 5, 2024 at 10 p.m.
The changes for users of the guest wireless service will include:
- The name of the guest wireless service will change from Guest@UofA to Guest@UA
- Upon connection to Guest@UA, guests will be asked to provide authentication information through one of the following means*:
- Windows Live
- Google (non-ualberta.ca accounts only)
*The current list of authentication providers will evolve based on community feedback. A request to the system vendor to include AppleID support as an authentication method has been filed.
These changes will more clearly focus this service on visitors and guests of the university.
These changes will not impact the eduroam or UWS wireless services for staff, faculty and students.
Note: Members of the university community (staff, students and faculty) who may have been using Guest@ for connectivity should instead be using the university eduroam wireless service which offers a better service experience, quality and performance and will allow wireless roaming access to wireless services at other organizations that also offer eduroam managed access.
