Enrolment Options for Professional Learning Courses
There are three options for students who want to take Professional Learning courses outside of enroling in a PL certificate or degree programs:
- The recommended option is to use the Non-Degree Graduate Student (NDGS) path, particularly for international students.

- Application fee - $0
- Tuition deposit - $0
- Active student status for one full year
- Application deadline: one month before the term begins
To apply: - Save this form to your computer
- Fill it out and submit it to pluadmin@ualberta.ca
- Once you are accepted for admission by the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (GPS), you must notify the graduate administrator for the course you want to take.

- If you are unable to meet the one-month deadline, Open Studies (OS) is the next option.
- Non-refundable application fee - $135
- Non-refundable tuition deposit - $500 (domestic); $5,000 (international)
- Application deadlines:
- Fall Term - August 25 - student status for fall and winter
- Winter Term - December 15 - student status for winter only
- Spring Term - April 30 - student status for spring and summer
- Summer Term - June 30 - student status for summer only
To apply: - Complete an 'undergraduate application' to Open Studies.
- Once you are accepted for admission by OS, you must notify the graduate administrator for the course you want to take.
- Students in other graduate programs at the U of A - consult with your advisor to be sure the course is approved for your program, then contact pluadmin@ualberta.ca to be connected to the associated graduate administrator.
Note: these options do not guarantee your seat in the course.
Priority registration is given to students in Professional Learning certificate or degree programs, then to students in other graduate programs, and finally to NDGS or OS.
