Summer Work Internships
Am I required to do a summer internship to complete my degree?
We strongly encourage all full-time students, regardless of specialization or combined degree program, to pursue a summer internship. However, students are not required to complete an internship as part of the MBA degree.
How do students find internship positions?
The MBA Career Management Centre generates numerous summer internship opportunities, all of which are posted on CareerConnect. Students are encouraged to seek internships that align with their goals and take ownership of their internship search. The Career Management Centre supports students as part of the Career Coaching model during the job search, application, interview, and onboarding processes.
Are students responsible for finding their own internship?
The MBA Career Management Centre sources internship opportunities and then encourages students to follow traditional hiring practices to obtain their internships. This process helps students prepare for their post-graduation job search.
How much assistance will I receive in finding an internship?
The MBA Career Services team provides coaching in personal brand development, career clarity, career exploration, targeted job search and relationship management and networking. Students are also invited to attend on and off-campus recruiting events, career fairs, and information sessions.
Are all summer internship assignments in Edmonton?
Most summer internships are located in Edmonton. However, internships in other cities across Canada as well as internationally are also possible.
How much do students get paid while working on a summer internship?
Summer internship students typically earn between $3,000-$5,000/month at a typical rate of $25/hour, with the exact amount varying by the employer.
Do part-time students complete an internship?
Typically, part-time students do not complete an internship.
