Admissions

Executive MBA Program

The Alberta Executive MBA is designed to give senior-level managers the skill set to become innovative leaders. Each year the Executive MBA program takes great care to ensure that the incoming cohort consists of intelligent, hard-working, and successful individuals. We seek motivated, bright, and articulate individuals who have strong standards of personal ethics. Each candidate is evaluated holistically to ensure compatibility between the applicant and the program.

We have one start date (Fall Term) each year.  Specific entrance requirements are outlined below.  After a completed application has been received, applicants will be invited to complete our admission interviews.

Entrance Requirements

Letters of Reference

Candidates are required to include two letters of reference as part of their application.

You will be asked to provide the names and email addresses for your referees in the online application system. The system will automatically forward your referees a reference letter request. In addition, referees can complete our reference letter template and upload this into the online application.

Post-Secondary Degree

Applicants will ideally hold a four-year undergraduate degree from a recognized institution with a minimum GPA of 3.0 over the last two years of study. For individuals with international education, please see our equivalent academic requirements.

When completing the online application, applicants will be required to scan and upload each page (front and back) of the most up-to-date official academic documents in PDF version.

  1. Transcripts or Marksheet in Original Language
  2. Marksheet in English Translation (if original is not in English)
  3. Degree Certificate in Original Language
  4. Degree Certificate in English Translation (if original is not in English)

Once you have received your official letter of admission, official academic documents must be sent to the University.

Candidates who do not hold an undergraduate degree, but have significant professional experience can be considered for the Alberta Executive MBA program. Please contact the Admissions Office to discuss your eligibility.

Standardized Test Score

The Executive Assessment (EA) is designed to evaluate your business school readiness based on your career experience and helps admissions teams understand how to best support your success. The EA is 90-minutes in length, requires minimum preparation, and allows you to sharpen your skills before starting the Executive MBA. There is no minimum score requirement for admission into the program.

Unless qualifying for a waiver, all Executive MBA applicants are required to submit scores from one of these three standardized tests: Executive Assessment, Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).

A standardized test score exemption based on prior academic performance and professional experience may be granted. Applicants who do not have a recognized undergraduate degree, or have an undergraduate degree with a GPA of less than 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) will likely be required to submit a standardized test score. Applicants who need a Study Permit to enter Canada will be required to include a standardized test score as part of their application.  Please contact the Admissions Office and we will review your eligibility to see if you qualify for an exemption.

Statement of Intent
A statement of intent, approximately one to two pages in length, will be included with your application. The statement should outline why you are interested in the Alberta Executive MBA program, how your background and experiences are conducive to a collaborative learning environment, your expectations for the program, and how this degree relates to your professional/personal goals.
Work Experience

The most important entrance requirement for the Executive MBA program is professional work experience. We value diverse and unique experience in terms of position and industry, and candidates must have supervisory or management experience. On average, Executive MBA students have 15 years of progressively responsible experience, with a significant portion of that experience being at the senior leader level.

Your application will include a resume with sufficient details of your professional work experience. Education, volunteer experience, accomplishments achieved at work, and any extracurricular activities should also be highlighted.

How to Apply

Applicants are required to apply online through the Faculty of Graduate Studies website. The application fee of $135 can be paid online.

Supporting documents must be uploaded into the online application system. Once you have received your official letter of admission, official academic documents must be submitted.

Applications for Fall 2025 are open from October 1st, 2024 to May 1st, 2025.  If you have any questions about the Executive MBA or the application process, please reach out and we'd be happy to help.
