Non-Direct Entry Programs
Most of our Science degrees are direct entry, meaning that you may enter directly from high school.
There are a few programs however, that require 1-2 years of pre-professional study prior to admission. Be sure to check the admission requirements in the U of A Calendar to ensure that you meet the criteria for the program you have applied to.
Business Minor
Students wishing to add a Business Minor to their Major or Honors degree can do so after year 1. Admission to this Minor is competitive and requires the completion of 24 units of the following course work (or their equivalents) and a minimum AGPA of 2.3.
- 6 units in junior ENGL or 3 units in junior ENGL and 3 units in junior WRS
- ECON 101
- ECON 102
- One of MATH 117, MATH 134, MATH 144 or MATH 154
- 3 units in MATH, STATS or CMPUT
- 6 units in BIOL, PHYS, CHEM, EAS or Science Psychology
Bachelor of science Major - mathematics and finance
Students can apply to transfer to this Major after year 1. For year 2 entry, a minimum 2.7 AGPA and a minimum 2.7 GPA on the following courses (or their equivalents).
- ECON 101
- ECON 102
- MATH 125
- MATH 154
- MATH 156
- STAT 161
- 3 units in ENGL or WRS
Students wishing to enter after year 2 will have additional course requirements which can be found in the U of A Calendar linked at the top of this page.
Bachelor of science honors - mathematics and finance
Students can apply to transfer to this Major after year 1. For year 2 entry, a minimum 3.0 AGPA and a minimum 3.0 GPA on the following courses (or their equivalents).
- ECON 101
- ECON 102
- MATH 117
- MATH 118
- MATH 127
- STAT 161
- 3 units in ENGL or WRS
Students wishing to enter after year 2 will have additional course requirements which can be found in the U of A Calendar linked at the top of this page.
Bachelor of science honors - psychology
Admission is permitted after year 2 and the completion of a minimum of 48 units of course work with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Course work must include the following (or equivalent):
- PSYCH 104
- PSYCH 105
Admission is contingent upon securing a research supervisor by June 15 of the year they are applying. Students planning to apply for admission should contact the Department of Psychology.
Bachelor of science honors - planning
Admission is permitted after year 2 and the completion of a minimum of 48 units of course work with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Course work must include the following (or equivalent):
- EAS 100
- HGEO 100
Admission is contingent upon securing a research supervisor by June 15 of the year they are applying. Students planning to apply for admission should contact the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences.
