Survey Design Workshop

Survey design: Asking the right questions to get information that you can use. Tips, tricks, myth-busters, and reminders for beginners and experienced survey users.

Description

“Anyone can design a survey – it is the easiest kind of research you can do!” This statement is absolutely true, if you understand that anyone can design a bad survey – it really is very easy to do! We have all responded to surveys that were frustrating or annoying to complete; most of us have collected information with a survey, only to find that the information is not what we thought we would get (and it is hard to make sense of or analyze).

In this interactive session, we will discuss best practices in survey design. Using good and (mostly) bad examples and brief cases, we will work through the steps of designing a survey that gets you the right data for your goal, whether it is to evaluate something you are doing, perform a needs assessment, or answer a research question or hypothesis. Planning a survey in the future? Bring your own goals and questions to get some tips and advice to build the best survey to get the information that you need, in a form that you can use.
