Practicing Difficult Conversations
Description
Responding to surveyed priorities among the FoMD, this workshop will use solicited and carefully anonymized case studies and scenarios to work through common professional conversations that participants identify as both challenging and relevant. Using a combination of facilitative techniques, this workshop will offer opportunities for participants to explore difficult conversations through discussion, enactment, reflection, and peer collaboration. Participants will be asked to confidentially identify specific personal situations and concerns in advance of the workshop; individual experiences/connections to scenarios explored in the workshop will not be shared unless a participant chooses to self-disclose.
Objectives
- Introduce and build skills for navigating professional relationships and conversations in the presence of discomfort and/or conflict.
- Create safe opportunities for participants to practice/experiment with skills and strategies for challenging interpersonal situations and/or observe and reflect on the tactics of others.
- Contextualize case studies and practical scenarios to maximize relevance.
- Enhance community connections through experience of collaborative problem solving.
Target Audience
General Faculty interested in learning and practicing new interpersonal tactics for a variety of “difficult” conversations (as defined by registrants).

This 2-hour online workshop is being presented by Ms. Shana Ross, FoMD Faculty Development Consultant and Dr. Manjula Gowrishankar.
