Participant Comments:

"Studying abroad in Japan was probably one of the best decisions that I have made throughout my undergraduate degree."

"Aside from a few cultural adjustments, my overall experience living on my own for the first time in a foreign country was seamless thanks to the kind and helpful staff at NUCB. Most of the administrative aspects (e.g. health insurance, living arrangements) were organized for us which made the experience so much easier."

"Being in a place such as Japan for a year proved to be the ultimate test of motivation, trust, and patience. I am confident that I have grown in ways that would not be possible if I had stayed at the University of Alberta for my third year. That being said, most of my most memorable experiences were had outside of the university. Frankly, I was disappointed with the overall structure and academic level at NUCB."

"Nagoya is in the middle of Japan so it's a very convenient location to travel from and to."

"Overall a very good experience but if you want to meet local Japanese students then it's a bit difficult to do so since there's not a lot of opportunities and they're usually very busy with their studies. However, it is a very good experience to learn more about yourself and to see how independent you can be. "

"Highly encourage exchange students to live in Meito dorm - strong sense of community and easy connection to the city. Commute to school from Meito might seem daunting at first but you'll quickly climatize to commuting/bonding with other exchange students."

"NUCB provides a fair entry to English education in Japan but lacking in depth among many courses. Nonetheless, there's tremendous value in cultural insights from school organized activities and dorm environment that is conducive to meeting other exchange students and cultivating friendships."

"Academically, you'll be reading tons of case studies and participating actively in class discussion - these are knowledge you'll likely forget in a few years. Outside the classroom, you'll likely be exploring a different aspect of life you've never experienced before. You can travel with a newly formed circle of friends, getting to know people from all over the world, and embark on a journey of personal growth that is hard to put into words. People often say you travel to find yourself, in this case, you'll be travelling to reinvent yourself in Japan."
