Costs + Funding

Application Fee

Participating in an Alberta School of Business exchange costs $250. This includes a $75 application fee, which is non-refundable for all applicants, and a $175 administration/coordination fee for those approved to go abroad.

Tuition + Fees

While on exchange, students will remain registered at the U of A and continue to pay our institution's tuition and fees. Additionally, all instructional fees at the exchange destination will be waived. While tuition fees are typically based on the rates for U of A courses, there are certain exceptions that may lead to reduced tuition for specific participants on exchange programs.

With the Guaranteed International Tuition Framework, international students continue to pay the same rate for their entire degree program, so participation on an exchange program will result in no changes to overall totals.

Tuition & fees will be due according to the regular University of Alberta payment deadlines and you may pay in the same way as you normally do for tuition and fees while at the U of A.

Airfare, Accommodations + Living Expenses

Each participant is responsible for these costs, which can vary significantly depending on your exchange destination and personal habits. It's crucial to thoroughly research your destination and plan meticulously to estimate your exchange costs. You can find additional information about accommodations and estimated living expenses on the host institution websites, in past student reports, and by consulting the exchange coordinator and former participants.

Please be aware that you will also be responsible for any visa/immigration expenses as well as insurance, vaccinations and any other preparatory measures that might be required.

Funding

Students on exchange are eligible for all U of A student awards and bursaries, as well as Canada and Alberta student loans. Additionally, there are various scholarships and awards available to support exchanges, both for general exchange programs and specific destinations.

The following is a partial list of funding resources available to students participating in an official exchange program. Students may be eligible for additional awards not listed below. For more information on scholarships, bursaries and awards, please visit the BCom Office, Office of the Registrar & Student Awards, MBA Program Office, Faculty of Graduate Studies & Research and the Education Abroad Program Office.

Business Funding

Business Exchange Association's Travel Award Program

BCom students participating in a Fall or Winter International Exchange approved by the Alberta School of Business Undergraduate Programs Office are eligible to apply for a subsidy to help defray the travel costs of an exchange.

This funding is for full-time, semester-length bilateral partnership programs. It is not guaranteed for every student, however, and will be granted according to criteria such as destination, duration of program, and other factors. Students must register with the Business Exchange Association (BEA) in order to be considered.

Please note: Participation on Spring/Summer exchange & study abroad programs, internships, study tours, faculty-led courses and other short-term international programming is not eligible for funding under the Travel Award Program.
