What to Expect During a Work Term
Ongoing connection with AWE team:
Our team has ongoing connections with the work experience students and we are happy to provide support to our employers throughout the process. We want to make sure that our students and their employers have a great work experience, so we have built in a number of touch points to ensure that there is an open line of communication to the university. Please don't hesitate to contact us at any point if you have any questions or concerns. We are happy to help!
Student eClass - Learning Objectives
Before beginning their work term, students are enrolled in an eClass, or online course which helps direct their work experience. The assignments and course requirements are completed by the student outside of working hours. Approximately 2-3 weeks into their work term, the student is asked to create Learning Objectives with the support and agreement of their supervisor. These Learning Objectives are goals they would like to achieve in their work term and are an important component to their learning and growth throughout their work experience.
Mid-term evaluations and Site Visit:
Approximately 4-6 weeks into the work term, we will contact our students to provide them with a copy of their mid-term evaluations and to set up their site visit.
Prior to the site visit, we ask the students to complete the Mid-term Self Evaluation and have their supervisor complete the Employer Mid-Term Student Evaluation. Once both are evaluations are complete we suggest that they arrange a time to discuss the evaluations with their supervisor. This meeting should ideally happen before the site visit if possible. The student will then be required to upload a copy of each evaluation to their Work Experience Record in campusBRIDGE.
The site visit is a chance for us to talk about how the work experience is going so far and areas for further development throughout the remainder of the work term. We will discuss the students' Learning Objectives and how they are going so far and what projects the student will be working on. Site visit are about an hour in duration.
Final Evaluations
Approximately 1-month before the end of the student's work term, they will be provided with a copy of the final evaluations. Similar to the mid-term evaluations, students will complete the Final Self Evaluation and have their supervisor complete the Employer Final Student Evaluation. Once both evaluations are complete we suggest that they arrange a time to discuss the evaluations with their supervisor. The student will then be required to upload a copy of each evaluation to their Work Experience Record in campusBRIDGE. We are happy to provide an additional site visit upon request, however this is not required for the completion of the program.
Through eClass students will also be required to complete a final report in the format of their choice. It is important that students ask their employer's permission before sharing content from projects they have worked on. The information we receive through their reports will only be shared with the Arts Work Experience team, and should we feel the need to share it further we will ask for permission.
