Important Dates

Thursday, March 6, 2025	U of A's application portal Horizons opens on or before February 26, 2025 (was previously February 19, 2025 but is delayed due to vendor testing) and will accept applications and supporting documents uploaded by the deadline of Thursday, March 6, 2025
Tuesday, March 18, 2025	Deadline for University of Alberta to submit screened, eligible applications and supporting documents to the Global Affairs Canada through the My EduCanada portal
June 30, 2025	Anticipated *final* selection and results notification to Canadian institutions. Information will then be shared by the University of Alberta with all candidates (selected, waitlisted, unsuccessful) as soon as possible. Results are typically shared with research candidates and their prospective U of A Host Supervisors within 1-2 business days of University of Alberta receiving the results from Global Affairs Canada.
August 1, 2025	Earliest possible program start date. Please plan to start later than this date, given how long immigration processes realistically take. Accounting for processing times, the earliest many of our researchers are able to arrive is September, with most arriving between November and January.
February 1, 2026	Latest possible program start date. Please plan to start a little earlier than this date. We recommend arriving no later than January 15 for the best research internship experience.

March 6, 2025	Deadline for candidate’s submission of application and supporting documents to University of Alberta International (UAI) through the University of Alberta International Government of Canada Scholarships Research Application Form.
March 31, 2025	Deadline for University of Alberta International submission of screened, eligible applications and supporting documents to the Government of Canada through the My EduCanada portal.
