Curiosity drives discovery, and discovery fuels success: Meet Faculty of Science librarian Lauren Steiglitz
28 January 2025

At the Faculty of Science, librarians assist students, faculty, and staff by offering specialized knowledge and support with the tools and resources of the science library. Some of the areas they can help include assistance with finding credible resources, organizing research, managing data, and navigating the diverse library systems and databases.
Lauren Steiglitz, a team member at Cameron Science & Engineering Library, connects our community with the resources, strategies, and science expertise.
Meet Lauren.
Do you have a particular area of focus?
I’ve been working as a science librarian at the U of A since 2019 and am the subject librarian for the Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematical and Statistical Sciences, and Physics.
What are the types of support that you offer students that are specific to the Faculty of Science?
I support students in their coursework and research in a number of ways. I teach them how to find and evaluate relevant resources, navigate library resources and databases, develop research data management skills, and provide support for systematic reviews. The library can support students in many ways.
What is one thing, or perhaps the most important thing, that you would like students to know about the library resources (and librarians!) available to them?
The most important thing for students to know is that the library is here to support them. Our chat service is the quickest and easiest way to get help from library staff. Chat is available weekends and evenings too.
