For the first time ever, Canada will recognize the United Nations' International Mountain Day on Sunday, December 11 with a week-long festival taking place at the University of Alberta.
The Canadian Mountain Network is hosting the first annual Mountain Festival-a celebration of the rich cultures and unique environments found in mountain landscapes-from Friday, December 9 to Thursday, December 16.
The festival will encompass and celebrate all aspects of mountain life, from biodiversity to indigenous experience and visual art to sport and recreation.
A detailed list of events can be found on the International Mountain Day Canada website.
