Merit and Promotion

Merit

Annual merit recommendations made by your Department Chair are deliberated and decided by the Faculty Evaluation Committee (FEC), using information you submit in your annual report compared to your respective guideline/standard documents.

As per the Collective Agreement, it is a university requirement for every faculty member to submit an annual report, which is designed to match the components of the FEC Standards. Thus, a well completed annual report will optimize your merit assessment.

Faculty Annual Report (FAR) system has replaced the Annual Report Online (ARO) system

We are pleased to announce that the Annual Report Online (ARO) system has been replaced by the Faculty Annual Report (FAR) system, as approved by the FoMD Faculty Council. The transition took effect beginning the July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023 academic year. You can access FAR through the button on the left navigation bar, or by clicking on https://facultyannualreporting.ualberta.ca/.

Learn More

During the process of transition, each department has identified super users who are trained in using the FAR system to document activities. If you require any assistance, contact your department chair for the names of super users in your department. If you are a chair or superuser and have questions that are unrelated to technical issues, please contact fomdfdev@ualberta.ca.

FoMD FAR Manual

This comprehensive manual explains the fields in FAR and how to input data. It is linked to the FEC Standards as well as a video on how to create and link ORCiD to Scopus and Web of Science. The FAR system searches for your publications using your ORCiD when it is linked to Scopus and Web of Science. The FoMD FAR Manual is linked to the 'Help' field in FAR. View the FAR Manual »
