Rural and Regional Rotations
The Rural Rotations Program is designed to provide third- and fourth-year medical students with an opportunity to experience the challenges of rural medicine. Third-year medical students must complete a mandatory rural and regional family medicine rotation. This rotation is four weeks in duration. Students may choose to complete additional core rural and regional rotations. These will be three weeks in duration.
Immediately prior to the commencement of the academic year, students will receive an email listing the approved sites that will be available for their rotations. The email will prompt students to specify their top six location choices from the list and declare any special requests they would like taken into consideration during site assignment.
Medical students can complete core rotations in the following disciplines:
- Family Medicine (mandatory)
- General Surgery

Each student must complete an evaluation form at the end of his/her rotation. The completed form must be submitted within 90 days from the last day onsite to qualify for financial reimbursement.
