- A valid study permit that indicates “may accept employment” or “may work” in Canada or Work permit
- A passport or Canadian provincial ID or Driver’s license for identification purposes
YOU CAN'T APPLY FOR A SIN IF
Your study permit does not include work remarks
If your study permit does not state that you "may accept employment" or "may work" in Canada, but you are eligible to work on or off-campus, you must apply to change the conditions of your study permit. This applies if you are:
- A full-time student in a degree, diploma, or certificate program at the U of A
- A full-time exchange student
- A full-time visiting student
Your study permit includes restrictions
If your study permit states "This permit does not permit the holder to engage in off-campus employment in Canada," but you are now eligible to work off-campus you must apply to change the conditions of your study permit. This applies if you were an English Language School student and transferred to a full-time, eligible program of study.
To amend your study permit, connect with an International Student Specialist for guidance. After your study permit is updated you can apply for a SIN.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS
