Partner - Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences
The Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences has the expertise that encompasses a broad spectrum of studies focused on the components, interactions, and behaviour of natural and managed landscapes. This includes agro-forestry, environmental policy and science, forest harvesting and operations, policy and resource management, and reclamation and restoration.
The University of Alberta is a leader in forestry and related research initiatives, including the Boreal Mixed-wood Dynamics Project, Landscape Ecology Network (Land-Econet), Mixed-wood Growth Model (MGM), Resource Development and Wildlife, Western Boreal Growth and Yield (WESBOGY) Cooperative, and the Wildlife Ecology and Management Network.
Success in forestry and management requires the ability to blend theory and practice to solve real-world problems. This program balances a strong foundation in management fundamentals with leading-edge practices in the science of forestry. The joint forestry program addresses issues pertaining to integrated resource management and sustainable development. Communication skills, leadership, critical thinking, and initiative will play an important role in your experience in the joint program as you work in teams to solve problems and define innovative solutions.
In Year One, students study the key areas of business: accounting, economics, finance, management science, marketing, strategy and organizational behaviour and have the option to begin coursework in forestry. In Year Two students further their knowledge of forest biology, and forest resource management and select several electives from both business and forestry.
Students have the choice of taking a business strategy course, a business practicum, a project, or a summer internship to complete the program requirements.
Normally only students with a BSc degree in Forestry with at least 2 years of relevant professional experience will be admissible to this program. Applicants must follow the admission procedures and meet the admission requirements of both the Alberta School of Business and the Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences.
The recommendation for admission will be made by representatives from the Alberta School of Business and the Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences.
When completing MBA courses, students are assessed MBA tuition. For domestic students in 2024/25 per course tuition for an MBA course is $2,597.64. For international students, the 2022 guaranteed tuition amount for the entire MBA/MF program is $52,714.02.
Combined degree students are eligible for scholarships and awards in the MBA program when taking MBA courses. Students may also be eligible for scholarships and assistantships with the Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences.
