The Marketing major at the Alberta School of Business is built on the strength of our faculty's world-class research in the areas of retailing, market research, and consumer behavior.

Marketing is a crucial aspect for any organization: large or small, profit or not-for-profit, wholesaler or retailer. Acting as a link to customers, marketing provides external perspective, steers innovation and growth, and drives revenue, value, and loyalty. Marketers ensure that organizations understand customers and society. 

Is a marketing major right for you?

Typically marketers combine a strong analytical mind with a creative flair and an ability to connect and communicate with people.

In this major you'll learn how to:

  • identify customer needs through research
  • direct new product development, and
  • determine when and where products and services are needed by potential customers at appropriate prices,
  • build strong brands, and
  • communicate with consumers using new and traditional media.

You'll also explore how to adapt marketing to international markets and cultures. Understanding these foundational concepts will be advantageous for any business professional.

The Marketing major at the Alberta School of Business is built on the strength of our faculty's world-class research in the areas of retailing, market research, and consumer behavior. The major combines research-based principles with innovative teaching methods; in addition to lectures and discussions, you'll participate in managerial cases, group projects, and market simulations. You'll also develop practical skills in areas such as consumer and market analysis, managerial decision-making, and implementing marketing programs, preparing you to engage in sophisticated marketing practice.

Employment opportunities are wide-ranging for Marketing graduates. You will be well-prepared to pursue a career in consumer marketing, sales, merchandising, advertising, communications, customer service, or marketing research.
