Faculty Excellence
Trish Stringer was a recipient of CPA Alberta's Fellows of the Chartered Professional Accountants for the year 2024! The Fellow of Chartered Professional Accountants (FCPA) is a prestigious recognition bestowed upon Alberta CPAs who have demonstrated exceptional service to the profession or achieved remarkable distinctions in their careers, communities, or the accounting field. Congratulations!
Angelique Slade Shantz has been awarded the Canada Research Chair in Social Entrepreneurship. We extend our congratulations to Angelique for this well-deserved recognition.
Professor Randall Morck received an Honoris Causa Doctorate from the University of Montreal. Congratulations!
Student Success
The Alberta School of Business presented by the PRIME students — Claire Dobson, Evan Brassard, Aditya Sharma, Adam Jamal and Ryan Pfriem — won the Prairies Region CFA Institute Research Challenge. They will be moving into the Canada challenge next month. It is the second year in a row that we have won this Challenge.
The Winter City Case Competition (WCCC), is an annual, three day competition organized by the JR Shaw School of Business at NAIT.
Our students Omer Syed, Tran Nguyen, Carla Hinojosa Deza, and Ryan Le represented the Alberta School of Business and placed 2nd in the competition! Congratulations!
Ishan Arora, Gwen Lizardo, Alyssa Burant and Maddy Smallman represented the University of Alberta at the annual HRC West Case competition held in Victoria, BC. Our team did a phenomenal presentation on the complex and timely issue of equity and inclusion. As our team was in the final four, they had to present a second time to a new panel of judges and were awarded second place! Huge congratulations!
Paige Boyer, Lindsay Adams, Sebastian Gingerich, and Isaac McKague, represented the Alberta School of Business, University of Alberta at the largest undergraduate business case competition in the world, the John Molson Undergraduate Case Competition (JMUCC) in Montréal. Congratulations on your hard work!
We are delighted to share the tremendous success of the Winter Internal Case Competition, held on March 10th, 2024 by the University of Alberta MBA Association!

Mahek Seth, Jude Barros, Kian Kyars, Mahek Nijjar and Marcus Bustamante represented the University of Alberta at the Venture Capital Investment Competition 2024 (VCIC) held in Halifax. The team placed third in the competition. Congratulations!
We also had an MBA team competing at the VCIC 2024. Our MBA team also took a third place finish amongst teams from across Canada. Congratulations to our students Suraj Wadhwani, Nahid Shaikh, Harmanpreet Kaur, Bryan Rapati, and Aleksandar Nakevski.
We’re pleased to share that our students, Lingyi Hao, Azam Nikzad, Matthew Scott, and Rigel Vincent represented the Alberta School of Business, in the 8th Annual MBA Diversity & Inclusion Case Challenge at Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa. They placed 3rd in the challenge. Huge congrats to the team!
The Alberta School of Business came out on top at the prestigious 10th Annual NAIOP Real Estate Challenge with the help of Executive Professor David Dale-Johnson! Congratulations to our students Amol Bhinder (BA Planning), Brody Clarke (MBA), Arsh Deol (BCom), Jimmy Hu (MScURP), Ronesh Kumar (BCom) and Abid Wali (BCom).
Our MBA students Sherin Noroozi, Beatrice Kan, and Allen Lau competed at the Desautels Negotiation Competition at McGill University. This competition was nationwide and our school won the Social Media Award. Good job team!
Our students Patrick Boily, Vincent Lo, Aizle B, Mahima Bhandari and Harry (Harkirat) Singh represented the Alberta School of Business at the international Net Impact Case Competition. Our students competed with 18 MBA teams to secure a Third Place spot in the Championship Round. Congratulations!
Alumni Achievements
Samantha Gardner and Kendrea Sicotte ('23 BComs) — along with a student in Msc in Health Promotion (Rehma Khan) — won first place out of over 30 teams in the Technation Innovation Challenge in March, hosted by NorQuest. They received $20,000 to develop their prototype with the help of mentors in Edmonton/Alberta. Congratulations!
