Announcement: New appointments to the School’s leadership team

It is my pleasure to announce that we have two new members joining the School’s leadership team effective July 1, 2020.

The first appointment is Dr. Leo Wong, PhD who will take on the role of Associate Dean of the Undergraduate Program. Dr. Wong is currently an assistant professor in the School of Business at MacEwan University as well as the founding director of their Social Innovation Institute. He is also a proud alumnus of the University of Alberta, having graduated from the School with both a BCom and PhD in Marketing.

Dr. Wong teaches and researches new business concepts that are aligned with socially responsible thinking and ethical decision-making. He has carried out applied research with social enterprises, taught undergraduate and graduate business courses related to sustainability, and designed courses focused on corporate social responsibility. With his knowledge, experience and passion for learning, Dr. Wong is ideally suited to grow our undergraduate program and infuse it with entrepreneurial thinking.

Secondly, I am pleased to announce that Susanne Chaffey will be joining the School as the Assistant Dean of Advancement. Ms. Chaffey has 15 years of experience in major gift fundraising, capital campaigns, strategic planning, business operations and stakeholder relations, with over a decade of experience in healthcare philanthropy specifically. In addition to a Bachelor of Business Administration and MBA, she holds a Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) designation. She has also been recognized with an executive leadership award and was part of the inaugural Association of Healthcare Philanthropy, Top 40 under 40.

Ms. Chaffey is passionate about building strong, sustainable relationships with people who want to have a positive impact in their communities. She has done this throughout her career as the Executive Director of the Northern Lights Health Foundation and again in her most recent role as the Vice President of Philanthropy with the University Hospital Foundation. With Ms. Chaffey’s strong track-record and fund-raising expertise, I am confident the Advancement team will support the School’s drive toward continued innovation in our programs, activities and outreach.

These appointments follow the announcement last month that Dr. Michelle Inness will take on the role as the School's new Assistant Dean of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). I look forward to the expertise, fresh perspective and entrepreneurial thinking that each of these three members will bring to the leadership team as well as to their respective portfolios.
