School instructor and owner of Darkhorse Analytics Dan Haight is part of the team behind the re-launch of USAFacts, a not-for-profit, nonpartisan civic initiative providing comprehensive and understandable American government data to the public. Originally created by former Microsoft CEO and LA Clippers owner Steve Ballmer, USAFacts launched its new website on February 3, the day before the annual State of the Union address.
Student Success
Best of luck to Emily McGoey, Nick Thomson, Anika Garlick and Varshu Karumur, who are participating against 11 other teams in the Copenhagen Business School case competition at UN City in Copenhagen.
Fifth year Business student Vanessa Wild has been named to the Canada West women's basketball first all-star team. Wild broke a Panda's basketball record in November, scoring 39 points in a win over Mount Royal University.
Second year Business student Grayson Pawlenchuk has been named to the Canada West men's hockey first all-star team. The reigning Canada West Rookie of the Year followed up with another strong year for the Bears, leading the team in goals and points.
Alumni Accomplishments
Sabreena Braich ( '11 BCom) has been named a Top 30 Under 30 by the Alberta Council for Global Cooperation. The award is given to young people involved in "making the world a more just, fair and sustainable place for all." Braich is a chartered accountant and the director of international finance at Operation Eyesight.
Zane Christensen ('10 BCom) and Cameron French ('11 BCom) are the new owners of Alley Kat Brewing Company. Alley Kat is Alberta's fourth-longest operating brewery, and last year the company was awarded Brewery of the Year at the 2019 Alberta Beer Awards.
The Business Alumni Association held another successful Bear's Den on February 8 at the Clare Drake Arena. Many thanks to all the alumni and staff who came out to watch the Golden Bears hockey team beat the Manitoba Bisons.
