Happy convocation week! #UAlberta16
This is a very busy week for the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry. Convocation ceremonies, awards and more!
If you want to know more about the class of 2016, follow our news section for the stories we will be publishing this week about some of our graduating students.
We kicked off our feature convocation stories with MD grad and soon-to-be pediatric resident Chris Novak sharing his advice for incoming medical students.
Next up, is an interview with MD grad Cian Hackett, who never thought he'd follow in his dad's footsteps as a doctor, until his experience at UAlberta opened his eyes to the rare privilege of the professional.
Later this week, we are pleased to shine the spotlight on two grads from the School of Dentistry:
Fern Leavens from the Department of Dentistry will be presented with the Alberta Premier's Silver Medal on stage at the convocation ceremony on June 10. The Alberta Premier's Silver Medal recognizes the undergraduate student who achieves the highest academic standing throughout their undergraduate degree in the faculties of law, medicine & dentistry or pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences.
Stephanie McCorkill, graduating DDS student, is the successful recipient of the Alberta Dental Association and College Gold Medal, which is awarded to a convocating student for outstanding merit in the work of the fourth year.
Samina Ali wins Top Pediatric Abstract Award at CAEP 2016
The Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP) is celebrating its annual conference June 6-8 in Quebec City. We congratulate Dr. Samina Ali, member of the Department of Pediatrics and Assistant Dean of Professionalism, for winning the conference's Top Pediatric Abstract Award with her research abstract Ibuprofen or oxycodone? An observational cohort study of post-emergency department discharge management of children's fracture pain.
Another abstract she presented, A Randomized Controlled Trial On Oral Analgesic Utilization For Children Presenting With A Musculoskeletal Trauma In The Emergency Department, is among the top 4 research abstracts as well.
If you missed our story about the amazing work Dr. Ali has been doing to find the best ways to minimize acute pain for children and youth in the emergency room, you can read it here.
