Has exam season shorted your attention span? Would you like to learn about the diverse approaches to teaching in medical and dental education? If you answered yes to either question, we encourage you to attend FoMD FoT Spots. All the information you want, delivered quickly by some of the University of Alberta's most innovative instructors.
The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is excited to be hosting its first FoMD FoT Spots event on April 28 at noon in ECHA 2-430. The event features short, rapid fire five-minute presentations by award-winning FoMD instructors. Presenters share the creative techniques they use to both fuel the academic passions of their students and energize their own teaching practice. Everyone is welcome to drop-in for this free event.
Touching on topics that range from storytelling and debates in the classroom to software and learning games, each presentation will provide insight on a different aspect of education.
Presentations will be given by faculty members from a variety of FoMD departments:- Dr. Michel Donoff, "Carry On. Got it!"
- Dr. Bruce Fisher, "Dewey or don't we? Clinical education and experience"
- Dr. Judy Gnarpe, "Brainspan: connecting the memory synapses"
- Dr. Liran Levin, "Fame - revisited"
- Dr. Rachel Milner, "What is it that I do, anyway?"
- Dr. Anna Oswald, "Why are we here? And other big questions in medical education."
- Dr. Steven Patterson, "The Great Debate"
Following these presentations, the audience is invited to mix, mingle, and share their own scholarly inspirations during the FoMD FoT Spots mixer. This is a great opportunity to get to know some of the faculty's most inspiring instructors and learn more about what motivates them. Light refreshments will be provided.
FoMD FoT Spots is a Festival of Teaching pre-event. The University of Alberta's Annual Festival of Teaching, held May 5-6, is an opportunity to promote and celebrate excellence and scholarship in teaching and learning.
