With the changing landscape of global health, surgery has had an increasingly important role in healthcare delivery and international development. This talk discusses the emerging role for global surgery while examining the UofA-Moi Otolaryngology Partnership as an example of a model for sustainable surgical care in resource-limited settings.

Dr. André Isaac is a Pediatric Otolaryngologist-Head and Neck Surgeon at the Stollery Children's Hospital in the Department of Surgery.  He completed medical school and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery residency training at the University of Alberta. He then went on to complete pediatric otolaryngology fellowship training focused on airway reconstruction and pediatric head and neck surgery at Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, Northwestern University. 

Dr. Isaac also holds a Master of Science in Global Health Policy from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and is an executive member of the Office of Global Surgery at the University of Alberta. His clinical and research interests are related to pediatric open and endoscopic airway surgery, as well as global surgery in resource-limited settings. He is the Director of the UofA-Moi Otolaryngology Surgical Partnership, a sustainable model for global surgical care in Western Kenya.
