How to participate on Board Standing Committees

Get involved by joining a Board Standing Committee!

With the focus on building the University of Alberta as the university of tomorrow, the time is never more important to strengthen the impact that U of A students and researchers are making on society today, solving problems, creating jobs, diversifying and strengthening the economy and training the workforce of tomorrow.

As an advocate for one of Canada’s top five universities—the largest in the province of Alberta—you can play a role in University of Alberta decision making through service on a governance committee.

The University of Alberta Board of Governors is legislated by the Post-secondary Learning Act (PSLA) to manage and operate the university in accordance with the university’s mandate and to act in the best interests of the University. To assist the Board in its work, the Board has established seven Board Standing Committees and delegated to each committee responsibility and authority to make decisions on behalf of the Board in the committee's defined area of responsibility. Membership on these committees includes Non-Governor Committee Members (NGCMs), individuals who are not members of the Board of Governors but who serve as voting members of Board Standing Committees.
