*Students can choose a 2-month or a 3-month internship placement.

e3 is open to post-secondary students from all disciplines! Non-University of Alberta students are welcome to apply!

Note: Module III (Internship) cannot be taken alone. It must be combined with either Module I (Portuguese Language) and/or Module II (Academic Courses).


Program Information

Language of Instruction: English, Portuguese

Module I: Portuguese Language Studies (PORT 111)

Students who select this module will take approximately 60 hours of intensive language instruction and co-curricular activities outside the classroom to complete 3 credits of University of Alberta Portuguese language studies. In addition, students will be paired with Brazilian students to enhance their language acquisition.

Module II: Academic Courses

Module III: Non-credit Internship*

Gain Real-World Experience with an Internship in Curitiba!

Take your academic journey to the next level by participating in a 6- to 12-week internship in Curitiba, Brazil, between June and August. This is your chance to dive deep into Brazil’s dynamic professional landscape, working with companies or influential social, cultural, political, and educational organizations. These internships are designed to bring your classroom learning to life, allowing you to make meaningful contributions while gaining practical experience.

No matter your major, we offer internships across a wide range of fields, ensuring an opportunity that aligns with your interests and the unique themes of our program. You’ll work closely with your host organization to set the dates and define your role, ensuring the experience fits your academic and career goals.

To qualify for this incredible opportunity, you’ll need to complete Module I and/or Module II, which lay the foundation for your internship experience.

Plus, with the support of our local coordinator in Curitiba, you’ll have guidance every step of the way—from securing the perfect placement to navigating your new work environment.


Fees & Costs

e3 Brazil consists of 3 modules, which can be taken in different combinations. Students can elect to take one, two, or all three modules. The amount students pay depends on which track they have chosen to participate in. Students are responsible for all other costs, such as accommodation, food, insurance, books, flights/transportation, non-instructional fees, and other personal expenses. Housing

Students may request that UAI book a homestay during the e3 Brazil program. Student are also welcome to arrange their accommodation.

Students taking advantage of the homestay option must complete a homestay matching form. In most instances, students will be placed with another e3 participant unless otherwise agreed upon. The cost varies depending on the family, but a homestay can cost approximately $400 CAD monthly.
