Certificate in Community Engagement and Service-Learning

The Certificate in Community Engagement and Service-Learning is an embedded undergraduate certificate that recognizes students who have significantly integrated community service-learning into their academic experience.

Overview

The certificate highlights students’ willingness to collaborate with community organizations and complete impactful projects with tangible results. Completing community service-learning (CSL) allows students to gain expertise in merging academic and practical knowledge, honing research and leadership skills, and promoting citizenship and social change.

Eligibility

This certificate is available to all undergraduate students at the University of Alberta.

Requirements

To be awarded the certificate, students must complete the following:

  • At least 3 credits in a CSL-designated course (e.g., CSL 100, 300 or 360)
  • 9 credits from approved courses that have an embedded CSL component (note: students must satisfactorily meet the CSL requirements of each course)
  • One non-credit project

OR

  • At least 3 credits in a CSL-designated course (e.g., CSL 100, 300 or 360)
  • 12 credits from approved courses that have an embedded CSL component (note: students must satisfactorily meet the CSL requirements of each course)
