This short course covers the main hazards associated with an MRI environment within a radiation therapy department and how to identify and manage potential risks for personnel and patients.

How long is the course?

How much does it cost?
$790 CAD
I am an oncology nurse/physician/diagnostic radiographer - can I take the course?
The course content has been developed with practicing radiation therapists in mind so it might not be a good fit for you.
What about time zones?
The course content will be available in all time zones. Each week’s content is released at 12:00am GMT on Monday (you can access it if you have passed the previous week’s quiz).
What is the workload like?
Weeks vary - but the range is from 3 to 6 hours of work a week. Weeks 2 to 5 (MR physics) tend to be the most content heavy and may take you longer than the other weeks.
How many Category A credits does the course offer?
The course will be accredited for 22.5 Cat A credits through the CAMRT.
Can I receive a tax receipt for this course?
No, this course is not eligible for a tax credit.
How much physics is involved?
There are three weeks that cover MR physics. These weeks tend to be content heavy and may take longer than the other weeks.
What technology do I need?
A laptop/computer to access the University of Alberta learning platform (e-class), a reliable internet connection.
How do I pass the course?
To pass you need to be successful in all 8 weekly quizzes. You must complete the previous week and achieve a passing grade in the quiz (80%) in order to move on to the next week.
What if I fall behind?
The cohort will move along on a week-by-week basis. The goal is to keep up with your cohort. However, if you do fall behind, the content and quizzes will still be accessible to you until the course closes (usually 4 weeks after the end of week 8).
What is your refund policy?

If you withdraw from the course before the start date you will receive a full refund. After that date no refunds will be offered. 

Please let us know as soon as possible if you anticipate having problems with being able to complete the course in time and we can work with you to find a solution.

Will this course teach me to use an MR sim or MR linac? (Or - do I need access to an MR sim or MR linac? Or - is there a practical component?)
No - it is a continuing professional development course that will give you an introductory understanding of the use of MRI in radiation therapy. It will not give you hands-on skills/competencies.
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes. You will receive a certificate by email after you have completed the course and passed the final quiz on week 8.

It is expected that the course content will take you 3 to 4 hours to complete (including required readings and activities)
When does it start?
The course is delivered in a fully asynchronous format. You can start anytime.
What technology do I need?
A laptop/computer to access the University of Alberta learning platform (e-class), a reliable internet connection.

The course content has been developed with practicing radiation therapists in mind so it might not be a good fit for you.
Will this give me local safety accreditation?
No. This course is not a substitute for local MR safety training supplied by your organization. Always follow your local policies and procedures.
