The University of Alberta’s Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry (FoMD), in partnership with the Research Partner Network, successfully hosted the “Connect Care for Research: Maximizing Your Data” workshop on January 28, 2025. This event brought together over 130 researchers, faculty, and staff to explore how to effectively utilize Alberta’s health data for research purposes.

“This workshop is an important step in empowering our researchers to harness the full potential of Connect Care data,” says Neesh Pannu, vice-dean of clinical research of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. “We are committed to providing our faculty and staff with the resources and knowledge they need to conduct impactful research that benefits the health of Albertans.” 

The U of A is committed to fostering a collaborative research environment and advancing knowledge in the field of health sciences. This workshop is one example of the university’s ongoing efforts to support researchers in their pursuit of innovative and impactful discoveries.

Key Highlights:

  • Thirteen experts from Connect Care, Alberta Health Services, ABSPORU, and the University of Alberta led sessions on leveraging health data for research.
  • The workshop provided valuable insights into the practical applications of Connect Care data, research ethics, and administrative processes.
  • Attendees had the opportunity to network and collaborate with interdisciplinary colleagues.
