What led you to your current role?
I’ve always enjoyed teaching, which led me to earn my bachelor of education from the University of Lethbridge. Life took me in different directions for a while, but I eventually returned to post-secondary education. I worked in program coordination at both NorQuest College and NAIT’s Continuing and Corporate Education. Now, I have the exciting opportunity to work at the University of Alberta, in what feels like the big leagues of post-secondary education.

What’s something your co-workers don’t know about you?
In 2004, I was part of the Taiwan ultimate frisbee national championship team in Kaohsiung and was even featured in a Taipei Times article. Even with a severely torn ACL I helped the team win the championship, which taught me a lot about resilience and the power of teamwork. It’s a fun memory that reminds me of the importance of pushing through challenges.

How do you navigate challenges?
I believe in taking a step back to reflect when faced with challenges. Pausing allows me to gain clarity and approach the issue from a different perspective. Often, this shift in mindset reveals solutions that weren’t immediately obvious. I also value seeking input from others — collaboration and fresh ideas often lead to the best outcomes.

What’s your favourite distraction?
I enjoy kayaking out on the lake to watch the sunrise, or puttering around in the shop, looking for projects to focus on. Both activities help me relax and recharge.

If you were enrolling in one course, program, or degree within the College of Health Sciences right now, what would it be?
I have always worked towards becoming a better coach, so I would love to enrol in the KSR master of coaching program. It would be a fantastic opportunity to deepen my knowledge and refine my skills in this area.
