Russ Greiner receives 2021 CAIAC Lifetime Achievement Award

Professor Russ Greiner receives the highest honour bestowed by CAIAC, awarded to those who distinguished themselves through outstanding contributions to the field of Artificial Intelligence during the course of their academic career.

Announced at the 34th Canadian Conference on Artificial Intelligence on May 27, 2021, Russ Greiner receives the 2021 Lifetime Achievement Award from the CAIAC (Canadian Artificial Intelligence Association). This award is presented to an individual to recognize a lifetime of scientific excellence and outstanding contributions to the field of Artificial Intelligence.

From the Amii website: "Greiner’s storied career has spanned more than four decades, with his first publication at AAAI in 1980. After earning his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University in 1985, Greiner worked in both academic and industrial research before settling at the University of Alberta. He was also one of four University of Alberta researchers who originally developed the proposal to create what is now Amii, and then served as its founding scientific director."

Past recipients of this award include University of Alberta professors Robert Holte in 2019, Rich Sutton in 2018, and Jonathan Schaeffer in 2008.

The Canadian Artificial Intelligence Association / Association pour l'Intelligence Artificielle au Canada (CAIAC) is an organization of Canadian AI researchers dedicated to fostering the development of the Canadian AI community through research, education, and outreach activities.
